San Diego Comic-Con is once again strong with The Force. After a decade-long absence, Lucasfilm is back at the world’s biggest pop culture convention with news on Star Wars Episode VII : The Force Awakens.
Many fans feel that the spirit of the original trilogy has finally be revived in The Force Awakens. The original cast members reprising their famous roles paired with a return to practical effects during filming promises to impress fans who felt burned by the prequel trilogy. It’s safe to say that fans are beyond excited for the upcoming film. In fact, the only people who seem more excited for this film than Star Wars fans are the cast and crew themselves.
Star Wars Episode VII : The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy showed up at San Diego Comic-Con with some new footage from Episode VII of the Star Wars saga Perhaps the most interesting part of the video is the emphasis on practical effects. One of the ways Abrams and his team are looking to bring Star Wars back to its glory days is by incorporating as many practical effects as possible from aliens to spaceships have been built from real-world materials as opposed to digitally. In the opening moments, the video takes viewers from the concept art stage of a crashed TIE fighter through the modeling stage and to the actual smoking wreckage of the final product. All the while, Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker himself) explains how the practical effects make the film feel firmly connected to the original trilogy. But wait, there's more: Leia in uniform! Flame Troopers! C-3PO!
Star Wars Episode VII : The Force Awakens will be released in Japan 18 December of this year, until the day comes we picked out a variety of Star Wars products so you can hold, may the force be with you!
