Nami's Japanese Daily Life! Vol.1: Cafe Culture

http://www.j-subculture.com/img/bg_title_nami.png Long time no see, guys! Yeeeeah I was grounded for a bit, but it gave me the chance to organize my closet and start a million troll threads on 4-chan. Heh. Anyway, seen Madoka Magika? Remember that scene where her mom tells her "grownups get to drink al-co-hol?" Yeah, being a kid isn't a lot of fun but there are still places pretty anyone can go and have a good time, like cafes, and today we're counting down the top five coolest types of cafes native to Japan!

5. Maid Cafes

http://www.j-subculture.com/img/bg_title_nami.png Everyone's hear of maid cafes, right? What you might not know is exactly what goes on in 'em. Sure, the waitresses are dressed like maids and treat you like their master. A lot also have games you can play with them, from rock-paper-scissors to funny punishment games which are way less creepy than they sound. Just, like, you'd play rock-paper-scissors and the loser would get something drawn on their face. Sometimes the maids use ketchup to make drawings on your food. If it all sounds weird, just think of it like Hooters except with maid uniforms instead of, well, hooters :P

4. Cat/Dog Cafes

http://www.j-subculture.com/img/bg_title_nami.png Aw, yeah! These are exactly what they sound like, except some just let you bring your dog or cat, some actually have 'em "on staff." Heck, there are probably like bird, hamster and snake cafes out there too. Snakes make the best pets, they're so rad. I used to have a corn snake. I called 'im Crimson Death. He was awesome. Then Mami got born and they made me give him up cause she might get"scared" or something. Hmph, whatever.

3. Cosplay Cafes

http://www.j-subculture.com/img/bg_title_nami.png Again, there two types of Cosplay Cafes; one where the waitstaff dresses up, and ones where the customers do. Of course there are also some where everyone dresses up. Then again, there's nothing stopping you from walking into the nearest McDonalds wearing your favorite cosplay, except maybe the judgmental stares of people who will never be as free and happy as you. Suckers!

2. Little Sister Cafes

http://www.j-subculture.com/img/bg_title_nami.png Where the heck DID that whole "wanting a little sister" thing come from? I got one and I can tell you...well, let's just say if you re-eally want a kid sister and you've got, um, let's say a thousand bucks lying around, e-mail us with the header ATTN: NAMI ONLY and we'll...talk http://www.j-subculture.com/img/bg_title_nami.png Anyway a Little Sister Cafe is also pretty self-explanatory, and you can do a lot of the same things with your "sister" you can do with the maids. Of course in some cafes the little sisters are dressed like maids anyway. Doesn't that imply some weird things about your household? Then again, my little sister dresses up like a maid sometimes. Then again, my household is pretty weird.

1. Cafe Cafes

http://www.j-subculture.com/img/bg_title_nami.png No, seriously ;-_- When you hear "Japan" you might not think "coffee shop," but coffee culture is a big deal here. There are lots of nice, spacious, cool-designed coffee shops in pretty much every city--because y'know, everything in Japan is...better. The coffee can be pricey, though. Get ready to shell out about five hundred yen a cup (x_x) That's like five bucks for you Americans, or...twelve...shillings for the Brits? look I don't know. Ja, na! XDなみ
