ポッキー (pokkii) or Pocky, is a famous, delicious Japanese snack produced by the Japanese confectionery company Ezaki Glico. Pocky is a chocolate coated, thin biscuit stick. Sold since 1966, Pocky is a very popular snack not only in Japan, but also in many other countries abroad. Its original flavors are chocolate, strawberry, green tea, and almond coatings. It's a snack that is easy to have and fun to eat! The motto for Pocky is, "share happiness." Since it comes with many biscuit sticks in one box, it's perfect for sharing with the people around you.
Pocky comes in a variety of flavors. Some are quite unique like apple yogurt, corn on the cob, and black sesame. Talk about variation, right? Pocky also has many forms, such as "Dessert Pocky," which is Pocky but covered in a large amount of cream and has flavors like strawberry short cake. There is also "Mousse Pocky," which is the creamier, mousse-like version of Pocky. Pocky's vast selection is sure to provide yummy snacks for any sweet tooth. And now in Japan, the name "Pocky" has had a bit of a name change:
"Thanky"? "Sukky"? "Lovecky"? These may seem a bit strange, but actually, they're very sweet! To celebrate this year's Valentine's Day, the name "Pocky" has changed into many different expressions. To explain, each new name is a play on words. Take a word or phrase like "thank you" and combine it with "Pocky" for an original name like "Thanky"! Of course, there are words unique to the Japanese language, like "Sukky" coming from the word 好き (suki) which means "like" in Japanese. These kind of Pocky are special to Japan! However, they are limited editions, so if one would like a box or two (or more), one would have to be quick! After enjoying a box of Pocky, one can recycle the box by using it as a pencil case or a holder for notes and memos. It is growing popular among young people to reuse Pocky boxes in this way. More and more people are bringing their original Pocky pencil boxes to school or sticking them onto the walls of their room:
The planet is happy and you're happy―it's a win-win situation, right? Whenever you're in the mood for something light and sweet, grab a box of Pocky and take it easy. Maybe you can DIY the box afterwards too. But please, share the happiness it comes with. Pocky for everyone, how Happky! (See what I did there?)
