Rabbit Island or Okunoshima!

Japan fan lovers will probably know the existence of Cat Islands that we have in Japan. There are several Cat islands located all around Japan; we even have one near Fukuoka! But today, I don't want to talk you about cats; I want to talk you about another phenomenon, another kind of island in Japan where the free animal population is higher than the usual.

A RABBIT ISLAND! Yes, an island full of fluffy, cute rabbits! (= x =)

Actually the reason why in this island the rabbit population is that high is quite unknown. There are different theories trying to explain or justify the rabbit population, since the island was a secret place where the Japanese government installed a poison gas factory during the Second World War. Only the rabbits know! This island is located in Hiroshima Prefecture and is part of the Takehara City. The island is quite easy to reach from Takehara city via Ferry and takes only 20 minutes to arrive to the Rabbit Island.

The visitors must know that no other animals like cats or dogs are allow to enter to the island, since the rabbits run free and even though they are used to humans and they even approach to them, maybe cats and dogs will get crazy trying to play with the rabbits.

Okunoshima is a very small island, and I know you will try to spend all the time with the rabbits, but the shore and the water is really clean in the island and invites you to swim and have fun once you are done with the rabbits! There is also a temple and a hotel where you can rent bicycles to look around the island. ( x < )

Are you ready for sor extreme cuteness?

As I told you before, the rabbits are not really domesticated, they are not pets, but they will approach to you if you have food :D
