Have you ever heard of the character, Domo? Domo is a well-known figure in Japan. He's a monster with an always-open mouth, but fear not—he's actually sweet and cuddly. As the official mascot of NHK, Japan's national public broadcasting organization, Domo charms with his friendly nature. His name is a playful pun on the Japanese word どうも (doumo), meaning "hello there."

Similar to "Hello Kitty" and "Pikachu," Domo enjoys international fame. Domo stars in NHK's short, stop-motion sketches and originated from a mysterious egg that fell into a rabbit hole, where Usaji the rabbit cared for him. The first thing Domo watched was a TV news broadcast, sparking his lifelong bond with television.
Domo became NHK's mascot on December 22nd, 1998, marking both his and NHK's tenth anniversaries. Today, Domo is a cultural icon, appearing on TV and in various forms of modern culture!
